Can COVID-19 affect men more than women? 

As we continue to fight a major pandemic, it is hard to deny the fact that the world has come to a standstill. Coronavirus (COVID-19) has affected millions worldwide with more than 8 loop victims. As the infection continues to spread like wildfire, recent studies at Yale University have found that the number of men affected by Coronavirus is much higher than that of women. Let us discuss the reason behind this situation by analyzing the facts we have gathered so far.


Mortality Rate in Men

Before examining the reason for the high mortality rates in men compared to women, it is vital to understand which category of people are more likely to die from the disease.

Age

Age is one of the essential factors when it comes to deaths from COVID-19. Statistics from New York City Health reveal that nearly 48.7% of total deaths in the city occur in the age group of 75 years and older.

What is troubling here is the fact that this rush of cytokine can lead to accumulation of fluid in the lungs, eventually causing breathing difficulties, organ failure and death.
